Okay… I’ve been fighting it for a long time. I tried it back in high school but couldn’t get through it without giggling. No, I’m not talking about what you’re thinking about; I’m talking about Yoga. Typically my favorite workouts include fast-paced activity like kick-boxing, running, tennis, etc… and if i don’t break a sweat I don’t consider it a workout. However, I have chronic neck and back aches and I figure I can’t get a daily/weekly massage so I should figure something else out. Since I LOVE to stretch, I’ve considered trying out Yoga once more.

A few of my friends have asked me to attend Bikram yoga classes with them but I can never seem to find the time…shoot! Since my recent car wreck, I have been seeing a chiropractor quite often and occasionally a masseuse. *sigh* It’s been so lovely. (I highly recommend it!) The masseuse has suggested a few things for me to do like stretching, etc… in order to feel better and alleviate pain and one of the things he mentioned was yoga. He told me about this AMAZING tv channel, FitTV, powered by the discovery channel. A couple times of day they feature a series called “Namaste Yoga” in High Def. Wow… it’s been so good for me. I have already done 3 thirty-minute sessions in the past 36 hours!

It’s usually difficult for me to get motivated to work out in the mornings, therefore the afternoons/evenings are my favorite times to work out (as the sun sets), but now I can record/DVR these yoga series and do them on my own time! Yesterday morning I woke up, turned on Namaste Yoga, and did 30 minutes of it before getting ready for work. It is such a nice way to start the day!!! It is just enough of a work out to wake me up and makes me feel healthy, as well as, stretched for the day. The lady who does the voice-over for the show is so incredibly peaceful, along with the design of the show and filming locations. Each show is 3 women following the lady’s voice doing Namaste Yoga in some of the most calm and beautiful places. It will show them in one pose on a cliff next to the ocean, then transitions to the next pose of them in the red wood forest in San Francisco, and the next may show them in a giant windowed loft. The fact that it’s in HD makes it all the more beautiful, especially with the sun rising through the giant windows in my living room.

It’s also good to do before going to bed. I had taken my boyfriend’s dog on a jog after work and returned home to do some chores, but was still a bit wound up before going to bed. Doing yoga before bedtime is definately something I recommend. It calms you down and prepares you for a relaxing sleep.
