Katy, Catfish, & Meeting the Fam

Fishing

Last weekend Brian and I made a trip to Katy (my hometown) to meet the family and have our pups play together. It was a great trip! The weather was amazing, and everyone like each other, especially the dogs. My 7 year old yellow lab, Molly, liked Brian’s 6 month Golden Retriever A LOT. They basically stayed within 6 inches of each other the whole weekend. Molly would take a dip in the water about 8 times a day and it looked like Gus joined her, but no no… he just rubbed up against her, which faked us out that he attempted to swim on his own. (We think that b/c he fell in the pool a couple months ago that it was a traumatic experience for him and thus hates getting close to large bodies of water.) We will break him of this soon…

We arrived around dinner time Friday evening… did the whole greeting thing, took a tour of the land, and had a nice family meal (one of my fav dishes!). After dinner the embarassing childhood stories began to unleash. I could do nothing but just sit there and laugh while holding my face… Once my mom gets going, there’s no stopping her. Thankfully(hopefully) Brian was not easily effected by these stories.

We were up pretty early Saturday morning (or at least Brian was). He and Gus were fishing as the sun was rising. I love getting to walk out to the front porch and leisurely sip coffee in one of the many rocking chairs. I chilled with the pups on the porch for a bit and then got dressed in my grunge clothes and headed out to play for the day. We fished for most of the morning and with the help of Dougie, we brought in a 13 lb catfish!!! Can we say dinner? After I cooked a nice country breakfast, we headed outside to play some more. Brian assembled a new cart thingy for Dougie to pull behind the mower while I read a book and soaked up some sun with the dogs resting on either side of me. Later on we had a fish fry and another home cooked meal. Yummmm. Overall, it was a relaxing and fun weekend!!

Check out photos from the weekend…
