Seattle // September 2015

The day my mom headed back to Texas after a week in Portland visiting us, we packed our bags and headed to Seattle, WA for a 24 quick trip. On the way there, we stopped to enjoy a picnic lunch I’d packed for us on the waterfront in Tacoma. We stumbled upon a really quaint park/area that had a cool pier, small restaurant, and some picnic benches.  I’ve come to really respect and enjoy the parks system in the PNW. There’s always a quasi-clean bathroom at the parks. We enjoyed watching boats, cars, and a really long train pass by just on the other side of the street. It’s so neat how many mode of transportation run through the PNW. So many trains, boats, huge ships, 18-wheelers, planes, not to mention public transportation.  Of course we have trains in Texas, but there’s just something beautiful about all these modes converging in one area near a waterfront or river.

We were mostly in Seattle to take Brady to his first Texas Rangers baseball game against the Seattle Mariners.  We were blessed with beautiful warm weather the whole time. The first day we were there, we enjoyed the lovely hotel room, compliments of the Hilton points Brian has racked up from business travel, and we even lucked out with a big corner room (perks of traveling in the middle of the week)!  We attempted nap time, which was a HUGE fail, because Brady was more interested in touching EVERYTHING in the room, making “calls” on the phone, jumping on the bed, hiding under the sheets, etc… SO, we eventually gave up and put him in the Ergo baby and walked to Chipotle. Seattle Downtown is beautiful. It’s clean, a good blend of new and old, bustling with tons of young professionals, and so much public transit. After we grabbed a quick bite, we walked over to the waterfront and (I) took pictures of the ferris wheel and a beautiful sailboat floating along in the sun’s reflection on the water as it was setting.  We grabbed an Uber to the stadium (just a stone’s throw down the road) and settled into our (awesome) seats at the baseball stadium.

The stadium was beautiful and the roof was wide open due to the perfect weather.  Brady was enamored by all the goings on at the stadium. He loved watching the pitcher and the batter. We was decked out in his Rangers gear (hat, shirt, and paci- which doesn’t typically go in public, but was necessary since the game was during his bedtime).  He flirted non-stop with the couple behind us. Thankfully they were happy to entertain him/vise versa. The ushers at the game handed out old baseball cards to the kids and Brady had a stockpile by the time we left. All things considered,  Brady was pretty well behaved, until he thew his “woobie” (lovie) over the edge of our section onto some nice folks below.  Other than, that he lasted most of the game!

The following morning we walked to the next neighborhood over (Capital Hill) for breakfast at Oddfellows (very similar to the one in Dallas).  The decor and natural light were beautiful. The food was pretty darn delicious, too!  I’m glad my friend Lindsey provided the suggestion! Then we ventured over to a little park that overlooks downtown, the space needle, and Puget Sound for some pictures. It was a very clear day so the pictures were great!  After that we headed to Pike Place Market. It was much larger than I imagined. We enjoyed folks playing live music here and there and ended up grabbing a bite to go from an Italian sandwich shop. I couldn’t leave without downing a fresh ginger beer from Rachel’s Ginger Beer in the market. I wish I had one of our growlers with us to fill up, because it was so good.  It was a little spicy from the ginger, but GOOD.   As we ventured back to the car we took in the smell of someone openly smoking pot while trying to cover it up with incense. hah. Yuck.

Here are some photos from our quick trip to Seattle. I wouldn’t mind going back (often).
