Scoring soundtracks for movies….one of my dreams

Pandora Video Series: In The Studio

I’ve recently rediscovered www.Pandora.com (a site you can create customized radio stations streamed from the internet – no commercials- by just typing in an artist or genre) and I came across their blog site… and found the video above. If I could have any dream job (besides a professional photographer, of course) I have always wanted to score films/movies… or at least line up their sound tracks, since I’m extremely musically inclined. (Does the “Recorder Club” circa 1994 count?)  Most of the time, if the movie doesn’t have a great soundtrack, it’s probably a bad movie… you know it and I know it. The music makes the film. The above video is an interview with several film scorers /composers who get to sit down with film directors and create beautiful music compositions for movies. How awesome!!!

As a little treat- here’s one of my favorite compositions from a recent film… “Maestro” by Hans Zimmerman from the film, “The Holiday.” He’s GOOD.  I also really enjoy normal/non-classical songs… I’m sure I’ll include some in a future blog entry.

I am a HUGE fan of movie soundtracks. My favorite composer is John Williams. The family and I watched ET last weekend and it’s my favorite soundtrack of all time. I agree with you, without the music, ET would have been pretty good, but the soundtrack puts it WELL over the top. My other favorites include James Horner and Elmer Bernstein.

Enjoy and think about my comment over a nice cup of coffee…it really makes the holiday.

Yes- John Williams is a master at composing GENIUS soundtracks for movies. I also forgot to mention another one of my favorite artists (for films), Yo-Yo Ma, the great cellist. He worked with John Williams to create a beautiful soundtrack for the film, “Memoirs of a Geisha.” Another great memorable & touching soundtrack/compilation is from the modern-day “Romeo & Juliet.”
