Battling Powerlessness

They’ve always said “The truth shall set you free” and it’s true…

Matt Chandler, head pastor at The Village Church, spoke a very powerful message this evening.

He ended with LUKE 6:46-49

“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47 I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

Many of us live in powerlessness… we know the truth but do nothing about it. This just takes us farther and farther away and weakens us. Of course, this is much easier said than done… but simultaneously it boggles my mind that we would be so dumb and selfish to continue to follow false practices (or old ways), when we are given the pathway to righteousness. God’s grace is sufficient. We continue to shut it out and put up these walls where we don’t accept His love. If we could just simply accept the Love and Grace that God continually hands to us (even after we mess up and continually disobey him) we could build a firm foundation and stand strong in Him and not be shaken in times of disparage.

It’s amazing how much easier and encouraging it is to get through a day with Christ at your side, than to continually push him away and try to do things on your own. You will notice that without Him, you”ll keep falling down and find it incredibly difficult to get up again on your own. And if at the end of the day (or beginning) you’re not living for God, what purpose are you living for?
