Falling for God

My Bible study girls and I are doing a book study on “Falling for God-Saying Yes to His Extravigant Proposal” by Gary W. Moon.

Falling for God

Falling in love is one of life’s greatest joys.
So imagine the endless joy of falling head over heels for God.

My first thought was, “Wow, this book is really pretty- great cover photo…”, but once I began reading I realized it’s just as great inside. Each chapter is broken up into little short stories, Bible stories/scripture, personal meditations,  and classical spiritual exercises.  So overall it’s good for your head, heart, body and soul.

The first chapter discusses “The Three C’s of Lasting Love”:
Conversation, Communion, and Consummation. It illustrates
how we are made in His image….
how love is our natural habitat….
“Nothing awakens the deepest feelings of terror like the experience of separation from love.”
A powerful thing he says about true transformation really hit home…”Real change  requires honesty
about where we are right now and where we want to be.”  There is nothing that we can acheive
that will fill the God-shaped void in the center of the soul.
This is where Grace and discipline comes into play.

For most of us the incremental journey back to falling in love with God can be more loopy than straight. Because of this, it’s important to develop an appreciation for small changes. Falling in love with God and allowing our relationship with him to deepen through taking the time for the tiny disciplines of affection can lead us down the path to ultimate union. Real change happens through the development of a romantic relationship with God… It happens one crumb at a time.  A few minutes here to meditate on a passage of scripture, a few there to stop and enjoy God’s surroundings, a moment before surrendering to sleep to inventory the day and examine our conscience, being honest about a lack of desire, asking for help in trusting his love. These things are small, yes, but can pile up in drifts great enough to stop a run away ego, just as the crumbs of snowflakes can fall in drifts and stop a powerful train.
