We were blessed to celebrate our five year wedding anniversary in St. Lucia last month (March). It was quite a trek getting there, but so lovely relaxing (kid free) in a beautiful tropical environment with my love. Crazy how fast five years flies by. Ironically, we sold our house while we were on that trip. Our first home we bought together, grew in, brought Brady home to, built so many memories (& a raised garden bed) in our sweet first home. Though we were partially nervous/filled with bittersweet feelings during parts of the trip (from our house being on the market), it was a blessing to get away and explore the beautiful island of St. Lucia. We stayed at the Sandals Grande Antigua. If you make a trip there, we suggest that particular Sandals resort out of the three you have to chose from. It was larger, more accommodating, more lively, etc… The rooms were beautiful and the staff was (mostly) great. We visited the other two resorts via free shuttle (make sure you allot plenty of time for these shuttles) for sushi one night and a hibachi grill overlooking a cliff the other. We met a few nice honeymooning couples throughout our stay. It was weird to not be the newlyweds and to actually say we’ve been married 5 years!
We mostly relaxed, worked out (I started each day with yoga on our balcony), beached, ate & drank (yay for all inclusive!), etc… and the last full day we were there, we ventured out on an excursion with Exodus Excursions (“Sly” was our guide and he was great!). We took a boat to the South West part of the island (our resort was at the FAR North West side). The boat ride was beautiful. We were taken around a few landmarks and points of interest. We got to snorkel with fish and critters and view the pretty coral reef. Then, we saw the famous Pitons (AKA the “breasts” of the island). After that, we enjoyed some local cuisine (yummy and filled with flavors, spices (curry and earthy), fish and root vegetables) and then ventured to the volcanic mud bath and (very) hot springs. It was a pretty cool experience, except I had a sun burn in a couple random spots that burned like fire when I was immersed in the hot mud spring. It was amazing how hot it was. The boat ride back was beautiful, too. We saw a couple caves and pretty cliffs. The water would change color from a deep sapphire blue to a sea green depending on the depth of the water and choppiness. Overall, it was a great experience!
