I’m not sure how many of you watched READING RAINBOW as a kid on PBS… but this brings back so many memories from elementary school. The teachers would show us these PBS videos all the time, and this one was featured just about every other day. NOTE: I used to have a passion of hatred towards reading. Pretty much the only time I lied as a child was about completing my reading homework from 1st- 3rd grade. (Okay, so maybe that was a long period of time, but I was a good kid other than that.)  We used to have to take home books as we were learning to read and I just couldn’t figure out the “magicalness” behind reading a book. It used to be incredibly boring and pointless to me. I would have rathered play outside and use my own imagination.

However, as I got older, it wasn’t until after my freshman year of high school that I found that “magicalness” of reading a book (I’m not sure how I made it through AP English classes before that with all the reading assignments? – Oh yea, I used to buy the books on tape and fall asleep listening to them.) Anyway, when I was about 14 I remember standing in the check out line at the grocery store with my mom and grabbing a book next to the candy display and throwing it on the conveyor belt to purchase.  It was a Stephen King novel called “The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon”.

The girl who loved tom gordon

It was such a great novel (at least to me at that time.) I know- what a harsh author choice to start with.  So naturally, this opened my interest to other authors who might write as interstingly as Stephen…it was then that I began my obsession for James Patterson novels. No joke. I’ve been on track reading all of his novels since his first novel up to his most current novel. That’s pretty much how I’ve been my whole life- if it’s not my timing or my decision to try something (or God’s timing), then it’s probably not going to happen until I’m ready or willing. I am so happy I love to read now, it’s like this whole other life I have where I can escape into a fictional world and massage my imagination.
