Hidden Sin…. a beautiful and sucky process.

For some reason lately, God has put on my heart to recognize/ become aware of my hidden sin.

This is the sin that most of us tend to ignore/suppress on a daily basis for…years at a time. My pastor, Matt Chandler, at the Village Church, has talked about his experience with this. He explains that the first couple years of his marriage were difficult (duh- obviously when you stick 2 sinners together there’s going to be some tension/head butting.) But mostly because he assumed his wife was the one with all the sin, who was always in the wrong. He couldn’t figure out what “baggage” he was bringing with him.  Then God started revealing his hidden sin to him…. and since then, it has made him a stronger man of God, as well as, more aware of his own sin- where he is more likely to fall into that sin ruthlessly/continually.

So, I began praying for God to reveal my hidden sin to me, and boy does He answer prayers. It’s been a tough 2 weeks realizing how sinful/filthy I am…which I’m sure it can’t all be revealed in a mere two weeks. Hah. But I’m even more amazed that I have been suppressing these sins and have been SO BLIND to these sins. It’s such a blessing to have an accountability partner who will sit down and listen/talk with me. Poor girl had to hear me blab about all of this the other day, but it is very helpful hearing another’s perspective and repentance… knowing I’m not the only sinner out there.

Many people may look at me and see the superficial parts of me , “Oh, she’s a great Christian woman; she never seems to lie or cuss or steal or gossip or cheat,” but there are so many more intricate sins of mine that fall within the 10 commandments- beyond societies “morals.”  Morals don’t win you salvation; Faith in Christ does. Faith without deeds is dead, and Faith with the wrong motives at heart is sinful (societies morals.)  But by the GRACE of God, my dirtiness has been forgiven, EACH DAY. {God’s mercies are new each day!}

“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit…”
Acts 2:38

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 1:9

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.
Ephesians 1:7

(His mercies are new each day!)

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22-23

I definitely have taken this gift of forgiveness for granted.  In the past {and somewhat currently} I have a difficult time TRUSTING that the Lord truly forgives my sins- no matter how insignificant they may seem. But it’s true, the Lord forgives you.

  1. Mitch Malcolm says:

    Do you think the lord forgives us for our hidden sins? The ones that remain hidden to us?

    I’m asking like… if you had have died before God revealed those to you, would you have been damned?

    I think you would still have been saved, but my friend is saying otherwise and I really think he’s wrong but I cant seem to prove it.
