Doormat, Farmers Market, Movies, and Ghana.

The past week there have been painters repainting my apartment building’s hallway. They do a really great detailed job, which takes them (two men) literally a day to complete a 40 feet width area of a wall area. But they use little equipment and take their time.. unlike me, I try to hurry and get flustered and end up flinging paint all about. Guess that’s why I’m not a “pro.” Anyway, the other day I came home to find that my (awesome) doormat had been”borrowed”/stolen by someone. My first thought was pure confusion… “who would steal a doormat?” and my second naiive thought was “Oh, maybe the painters moved my mat inside my door so that it would not obstruct their painting area.”  Then I glanced around and noticed that there were several other doormats still serving their homes. Crap. My doormat was a gift… and it’s funny/ironic too. It was a normal straw mat with black lettering that said “www.wel.come” and had an arrow (like a mouse) pointing at the “e” at the end.  Well, I really hope that whom ever “borrowed” my doormat needs it more than I do.  #1. Who steels door mats?  #2. What’s going to happen when I see a neighbor in my building with my borrowed doormat??

I feel like I’ve been out of town or so busy most weekends, that I don’t really get to enjoy hanging out in Dallas. So, it was a nice weather weekend that was spent exploring various parts of  (downtown) Dallas. Friday was a pretty lazy night… cooked breakfast for dinner (deeeeelish French toast) for Brian and watched the Kite Runner. I read the book, which was amazing…. (see my past blog post)and this was one of the closests films that followed the novel’s story line, characters, dialogue, etc… I was quite impressed. It was a great film.

Farmers Market

Dallas Farmers Market

Saturday I got up early and met a friend at the Farmers Market downtown. I was a first timer and thouroughly enjoyed the experience. My friend was a great haggler/bargainer… I just stood there and pointed and smiled. I think I’ll take her with me again!! It was a beautiful weather day… not too hot, but not too cool. The vendors were set up under a couple out-door covered arenas.  There were a lot of young families with kids, and the occasional dog on a leash. I left with a giant bag of produce. I LOVE shopping for groceries – I know, that may seem weird to most… but it’s where the majority of my money goes.  I love fresh food!! I had some time to wonder around downtown before heading up to my church in Flower Mound for a training session for an event downtown Monday evening. So, I ventured around the “Urban Market” and sat outside in a nearby park and did a little reading. What a treat. That night Brian got to pick the movie…and… he chose “There Will Be Blood.”  Not such a great movie…Let’s just say, Daniel Day Lewis did well, but became crazier throughout the movie. Most of all, the soundtrack was the oddest part of the entire film. It was borderline “thriller/suspense” sounds throughout the entire film. So strange.

Sunday morning was spent at church (great sermon as usual- go to www.thevillagechurch.net),  helping out in the Sermon Audio room, and Brian and I adopted a little girl to sponsor through Compassion International. Her name is Charlotte, and she lives in Ghana. I am so excited to see her grow up and write letters to her! I’ve always wanted a pen pal!!  Maybe we’ll even get to meet her in Ghana one day? That would be so amazing!  After a quick bite to eat after church, we headed back to watch the Cowboys game, duh. I did lots of “Sunday chores” and got a nice nap in. I cooked up some food from the Farmer’s Market and had a nice dinner after a game of tennis.

I’d have to say, overall it was a great weekend.
