The Other Boleyn Girl, the novel by Philippa Gregory

the other boleyn girl

Last week I finished reading The Other Boleyn Girl, by Phillipa Gregory. Let me say, GREAT read! I usually am not intrigued by historically based/fiction literature. I usually lean towards current (1990+) mystery novels (James Patterson) and the occasional classy romance novel (Luanne Rice). But this book was highly suggested by tons of my friends, and it makes it even more exciting that there’s a newly released movie based on the book! (Rentable on iTunes July 25! Woo!)

Even though The Other Boleyn Girl is nearly 800 pages, it moves very quickly and keeps you holding on tightly. The language is more modernly written than if it were written at the time of the actual events. Much of the language is stuffed with scandal and surprising wording. Overall, I was very pleased with the outcome of the quality of writing. I may even look into reading other material written by Phillipa Gregory.

I give it four stars.

…I’ll let you know what I think of the movie after July 25……
