I had the honor of photographing one of the most beautiful 1st birthday parties I’ve yet to see. Little Miss Sloane turned one in early December and her parents threw quite the bash… but only for her and their adult friends. They decided in lieu of presents that guests should bring a gift for Toys for Tots since it was just before Christmas. The decorations must have taken weeks and weeks of planning and execution. I had to remind myself to take photos instead of standing around and taking it all in with my jaw dropped. There wasn’t a detail that was overlooked.
The front yard was marked by a giant pink and while balloon #1 structure (maybe 8 feet tall?) so you couldn’t miss it. Right when you entered, there were party favors on the entry way table tucked away in cute little chevron printed bags. The front room was dedicated to a gorgeous photo booth decorated with pink and white balloons, the beautiful Toys for Tots Christmas tree & gift area, the ceiling was littered with balloons draped with long strings to the floor, and the table was covered with the most amazing sequined chevron patterned table cloth topped with dainty pink and white cakes, cookies & cupcakes. The room was glowing with candle light and just a touch of incandescent light.
Little Miss Sloane was dressed in the fanciest dress with a little fur and sequins to match the decor. Most of the ladies at the party donned some pretty form of sequins, as well. There was champagne and a full bar for the adults (once again decorated to perfection), a s’mores bar on the back patio – which was draped with chinese lanterns and twinkle lights, and in the back alley there was a food truck making wood burning oven pizzas. Sloane was sung happy birthday by a room ful of family and friends who love her and she got to dig into her own personal cake with her hands and face. Did I mention she had another cute little white outfit change for after the cake?
It was quite the event. Happy 1st Birthday, Sloane!

Two women in our church home group hosted a lovely “Sip & See” for our friends, Lauren & Danny and their new son, Cason. Cason is blessed to have a cute older brother, Cannon. The food was amazing, conversations were good, and I got to cradle a newborn. Judy pulls out all the stops when it comes to creating a delectable dessert. This special occasion was graced with orange dreamsicle flavored individual mason jar cakes. With homemade icing. And a marshmallowly goodness filling. It was alright, I guess.
Kristin made the cute cake toppers and some amazing pig-in-the-blankets, as well as about 5 other favorite finger foods that I inhaled.
Here are some fun shots from the day. Congrats, Laura and Danny, he’s beautiful!
Each year our Switch Creative Christmas party is hosted by the boss lady (Kimi) and her husband (Matt) and appropriately titled “Switchmas”. This was the 3rd annual Switchmas at their house. This year things were a bit different though. More people attended since we’ve grown a tad bit this year, there was a bar in Jones’ nursery/bedroom, and we feasted on Pei Wei in Chinese to go food boxes (my fav!) We’re usually stuffed with Kimi and Matt’s mouth watering home made lasagna and truffled mac’n'cheese, but Pei Wei was just as fun and filling!
We kicked off the party with a White Elephant gift exchange, which usually consists of a couple inappropriate or hilarious “gifts”. Jamie usually wins at bringing the weirdest/funniest/most controversial gifts. This year’s was pretty good. He framed some very awkward photos of some employees from a Switch photography project several years ago. They were golden.
After the White Elephant gift exchange, Kimi, Glen, and Matt usually hand out gifts to each employee. These aren’t just any generic gifts. They are very personalized and thoughtful gifts. I am always amazed by their gift-giving abilities. I wish I was that good at giving gifts. One year I received a gift certificate to a Spa (massage). Last year I got to choose a cooking class at Sur la Table (which then resulted in me making dozens and dozens of macaroons for the hoffice). This year I got this awesome camera with some film! I can’t wait to play with it! If anyone knows me they know I LOVE massages, cooking, and photography. See, told you they were good!
