First day of Kindergarten for B – September, 2018

Well, that went fast. B is almost 6 years old and we’ve arrived at his first day of Kindergarten!  Can I be honest? I  did NOT cry at Kindergarten drop off. Or in the parking lot. Or on the way home. I keep questioning if that’s bad?  But you  know what? It’s NOT.  I couldn’t sleep last night (maybe I was anxious for his first day of school?) and he woke up so sweet and excited, too. He wasn’t required to wear his uniform (praise the Lord for uniforms! Less clothing arguments!), but chose to wear it out of excitement. My pride was beaming as I walked him into his classroom  and took his photos as he proudly hung his backpack on his own hook labeled with his name, and then watched him excitedly (but also timidly) take his seat where his name was labeled on the table and begin his little drawing project. He was ok with me staying and watching him. He kept asking “Ok, what do I do next, Mom?” A few minutes later I snapped a photo of him with his new Kindergarten teacher, a moment I envisioned for as long as I can remember.  It’s been a long time coming and we’re both ready for today.  Touring the school in the Spring and then attending summer camp there, followed by his school-wide ice cream social last night where we met his teacher and delivered his school supplies helped ease into the new school.  I am so grateful he gets to go to a private Christian school with small classes and I got to hand pick his teacher. (Thanks, mom for the tuition gift!)

Just because I didn’t experience “sad” emotions on his first day of Kindergarten doesn’t mean I won’t get teary eyed at his Kindergarten graduation or Christmas program. My feelings of pride and excitement for him are so strong and it’s evident he’s very capable of doing well in school and becoming a great leader. Brady boy, you are going to soar!

PS – Scroll to the bottom to see photos of his VERY first day of “school” (mother’s day out when he was 2 & we lived in Dallas). Still one of my fav photos of him, because it was his entry into his love for “gear” (backpacks, organization, camping stuff) lol.

Brady’s very 1st day of school when he was 2 years old:
