We’ve taken Rara (my mom- short for Roxanne) all over the Portland area each time she visits. During her visit in July she requested to see a waterfall. I knew just the place! We took her to the Crownpoint look out in the Columbia River Gorge before heading to Horsetail Falls (further down the gorge). It’s one of those amazing (less crowded than Multnomah Falls) waterfalls that you don’t have to hike in order to enjoy it. You literally just park and walk across the parking lot to it. Though, there’s a trailhead just to the left of it that leads to some pretty awesome waterfalls and views of the Oneonta Gorge. After our waterfall adventure we took Rara for her first Pho experience in NE Portland. It was the shadiest and quasi dirtiest place, but I was holding out for the massive amount of positive Yelp reviews, which were right. It was delicious and we topped it off with an avocado (shake?) beverage.  Here’s some of my favorites from our day adventuring.  Isn’t God’s creation breathtaking?! What a gift that it’s less than an hour from our house!  I sure hope Brady remembers playing in waterfalls as a kid.

Here’s a quick video from our waterfall visit:

Back in July Brian and I went on the Bald Mountain Hike from Lolo Pass Trail with EPIC views of Mt. Hood, as well as, Mt. St. Helens (a little more in the distance.) You  know how you feel when you sit in the front row at the movie theater? THAT’S what’ it felt like when we got to the final view point at Bald Mountain looking straight at Mt. Hood.  I have this sorta infatuation with Mt. Hood. No kidding every time I see it from ANY view point it takes my breathe away (even from our front yard). There’s just something about that ‘cano (as Brady calls it) that makes me melt. See what I did there?

It was one of those close to perfect days where moods were high, the weather was nearly perfect, the drive was beautiful, we spent most of the day hiking in (breathtakingly beautiful) nature surrounded by unbelievable views, and ended it with our favorite small town hamburger joint on the way home all while my mom was watching Brady. What a gift of a day.

I made a quick 2 min video from our hike:

Here are some of my favorite shots from our kid free hike.

We visited Sauvie Island Lavender Farm when my mom was visiting us in Portland in July. I was expecting a huge farm with rolling hills, but it’s less than 2 acres, which was just the right size. It wasn’t very crowded either, which was nice. There are a couple picnic tables with umbrellas and a huge shade tree. You get some nice views of surrounding farms behind the lavender farm. Brady enjoyed discovering the various fairy houses around the field/property.  Each bunch (as much as we could fit in a giant twisty tie) was about $6 and a couple was just enough to dry at home, and use for some recipes. I made some lavender milk tea and lavender ice cream (yum!). Rara even took some back home to Texas with her.  I would love to return again during peak season when the sun is setting for optimal portrait lighting. This was midday, but still beautiful.  Stay tuned for our second visit with another side of family was visiting :).
