Photos are from the weekend in Katy for Daria’s 32 bday. She had about 20 folks over for a catered party. Fun party, great people, pretty location (dad’s house!) The kids are getting so big & speaking in sentences (in ENGLISH!!- they first learned Portuguese) They are so fun to play with now. Sammy follows Brian around and always wants to participate in what he’s doing… it’s cute. Lisa is pretty shy, but warms up to us quickly. It’s nice getting to see them so often, instead of having to take a 10-12 hour flight to visit with them once or twice a year. Now the 4 hr car trip doesn’t seem so bad.

The Galaxy Drive-in Movie Theatre
I have always loved drive-in theaters since I was small. There’s just something so nastalgic about them I guess. Too bad Texas doesn’t mirror California or Colorado’s summer weather, otherwise it would be even more perfect to go in the summer time here in Texas. I have only been to one drive-in theater. It was located near San Marcus, TX in the hill country. We (our parents) parked the car off-site in a different parking lot and carried in your lawn chairs, ice chests, etc… It was so fun! If i remember correctly, they showed the movie “Men in Black.” Awesome.
Every time Brian and I drive back to Dallas from visiting family in Katy, TX, we pass this particular drive in the “Galaxy Drive In” in Ennis, TX off of I-45. I always crane my neck to check out the place and attempt to see what movie(s) they’re showing. Maybe one weekend we’ll make a trip down there to see a movie. WOo! It’s amazing how far entertainment (specifically movies) has come in the past 40 years! Now you can watch movies on your cell phone. Craaazy.
Meiko. That’s her name. She’s a quater Japanese and the Japanese version of her name is pronounced like “Maaco.” But she pronounces her name in English as “Meeko.” She’s oringinally from Georgia, but based in LA currently. Her music could be classified as what plays in the background on an episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Funnily enough, one of her songs was featured on the Season Premier of Grey’s. Check out her MySpace page to listen to her stuff and watch some videos. I really like it! She’ll be in Dallas with the Hotel Cafe Tour Oct. 16- maybe I’ll make an appearance!!
I really enjoy her songs “Boys with Girlfriends”, “Reasons to Love You”, and “How lucky we are.”
Some of her listed “influences” on her Myspace page include some of my favorites such as : Patty Griffin, Sade, Cranberries,Nina Simone, Cocteau Twins. (Good choices Meiko.)
Here are some lyrics:
“Reasons to Love You”
Give me a reason to fall in love
Take my hand and let’s dance
Give me a reason to make me smile
Cause I think I forgot how
I wanna fall asleep with you tonight
I wanna know that I am safe when you hold me tight
I wanna feel like I wanna feel forever
Girls need attention, and boys need us
So let’s make everybody glad
That they have each other in each others arms
Oh let’s make everybody glad
I want you.
I wanna dream away with you tonight
We can go anywhere you would like
I wanna feel how I wanna feel forever
I want you
